I am going to college now. As math has always been my weakness, I purchased the course books in advance. I am plan on learning a handful of chapters before the classes begin . Any kind of pointers would be highly appreciated that could aid me to start studying basic mathamatics myself.

First of all, let me welcome you to the universe of basic mathamatics. You need not worry; this topic seems to be tough because of the many new symbols that it has. Once you learn the concepts , it becomes fun. Algebrator is the most preferred tool amongst beginners and experts. You must buy yourself a copy if you are serious at learning this subject.
